March 2025 Meeting Minutes

Conditions: 60*F at parking lot yesterday (26MAR2025), it was melting snow fast. Snow has firmed up. [Since the meeting, a series of spring storms have started rolling through]
Grooming: Ends March 31st . Trail markers will be pulled soon.
Huts: Come out soon after grooming ends, planned to be pulled Tuesday (April 1).
Would like to swap the Sierra hut with the Quealy hut. It is significantly nicer, and Quealy gets tons more use. We do need to do maintenance on the Nelson & Quealy huts this summer. We’d like to use expanded metal and build racks/shelving in the Lake Marie hut to dry gear.
Club BBQ/Ride: Ride up to the Marie Safety shelter on April 12th . That will be the last meeting of the year. Meet at 3C at 9:00 am and head up the hill together. We’ll provide food. Can meet on the hill too if that’s more convenient for you, plan for lunch at Lake Marie. Justin will pre-cook, and reheat in the safety shelter using the wood stove.
Treasurer Update: $14,000 and change in our checking account. A few hundred pending
transfer from PayPal from recent memberships.
WSSA Update: Jay Mentaberry & Blaine Matthews took it upon themselves to promote WSSA, they raised ~$10,000 to promote it. They want to try to work with commercial sponsors to help promote WSSA as well. These two also took kids on a group ride out Horse Creek. Thanks guys!
New parking lot: It is getting lots of use. State Trails is looking to do a survey either end of this year or next year to gauge use and gather feedback. There is a counter up there to track numbers. We’ll collect feedback too if you want to email it or Facebook message it to us. Issues I’ve personally observed: roadway in was narrow (can’t pass), and if plowing is
marginal trucks can get stuck heading in and/or in the turn around. We spent an ~hour one day with one truck clogging up the road, stuck near the top of the hill. Thankfully one truck had made it up before and was able to get things moving. Best way to park could be put on a sign on the drive in.
WSSA Update: Fun Days was in Rock Springs. SxS ride in the Dunes. $35,800 raised with
Schnapps bottle, divided up between Access fund and the WSSA student scholarship program. Jay Slagowski was voted in as the new president. Sunny Madden is back as the
secretary/treasurer. New VP is Todd Taylor. Thank you to the prior officers, and welcome to the new!
Next year Fun Days will be in Cody, early March, mark your calendars.
WSSA Fall meeting is in Lander on September 6th.
